Stanley Kubrick, self-portrait at age 21.
Death of Stanley Kubrick, 1999
Stanley Kubrick only directed 13 feature films in his lifetime, but what wonderful films they were! Among the best: 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Spartacus, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, and The Shining. He was famous for refusing to talk about his movies while he was directing them, and claimed that he never watched a movie of his after it had been completed.
